The Sixties Museum, Inc. plans to provide the
following programs, which are based on the ideals exhibited during that
decade. These programs depend on your support.
School Teaching Units:
Teaching Units for Elementary and Secondary Education will be available in
the following areas.
- Space Exploration: The Cold War motivated it. President Kennedy assured it.
Document the adventure, and study the times.
- The Sixties Lifestyle: From music to clothes, from art to the Summer of Love.
The changes in lifestyle, art, music, television and families are documented.
- Civil Rights in the Sixties: Document the struggle that culminated in the
sixties. From activists to the emergence of Martin Luther King. From organized
protest to violent revolution. Examine the struggle and build pride.
- Environmental Preservation: We forget how Lady Bird Johnson and Green Peace
played a role in today’s attitudes about pollution and environmental
preservation. See the roots of the movement and a list of activities that
students can get involved with.
- The Cold War: An overview of the struggles of the Superpowers, with
an emphasis on the effect it had on the everyday person. Visit bomb shelters, look
at the school drills, and examine the effects that the tension of a looming World War
III, had on students, literature, news and entertainment.
Scholarships:
To reward students who exhibit and keep alive, the
spirit of the Sixties, in art, literature and social work, the museum will
annually bestow scholarships for further education.
- Freedom Scholarship: Each year, the museum will provide an
educational scholarship to a student whose activities or behavior exemplify
the spirit and ideals of brotherhood, put forth by the civil rights leaders of the decade.
- Artistic Spirit of the Sixties: Each year, the museum will provide an
educational scholarship to a student who exhibits creative and artistic excellence, in keeping with the artistic spirit of the Sixties.
- Women’s Spirit: Each year, the museum will provide an
educational scholarship to a student, whose activities or programs exemplify
the spirit and ideals exhibited by the leaders of the Women's Movement in the
Sixties.
- Environmental Preservation: The Sixties Museum will provide a
scholarship, to a student who through word or deed, exhibits a concern and
motivation for environmental preservation efforts.
- Fellow Man: Each year the museum will award a scholarship, based on
good works toward "fellow man." This student will have exhibited
some outstanding quality, or performed some deed that keeps the spirit of "Peace and Love" alive.
Preservation Programs:
The Sixties was a revolution is art, style, music,
writing and culture. The Sixties Museum has programs to provide for the
preservation of materials, media, art etc. and to provide for the display of such
materials for academic study, public viewing, and free artistic appreciation. These efforts
will result in both a permanent location, and a traveling exhibit for educational
and display purposes.
Military Recognition:
Each year, the museum will provide a recognition of special efforts or
human values exhibited in the Vietnam Conflict, by a service man or woman.
This is meant to recognize achievements of a more personal nature, or
achievements ignored by typical chains of command. Nominations can
be sent in via the Web or submitted in writing. All entries must include
documentation for verification.
Hall of Fame:
Sixties Hall of Fame: Each year the museum will induct into its Sixties Hall of
Fame, those groups or individuals whose activities during the Sixties, helped to shape the
future. Nominations can be made via the Web or submitted in writing.
We are a virtual Web museum that is looking for a physical home. Our
goal is a permanent location in 2004.
