The Living Vietnam Memorial |

Help us build a "Living Memorial" to those who lost their lives in Vietnam. The Sixties Museum is going to build an electronic, multi-screened memorial, to immortalize those who served, and those who died in that struggle. Consisting of still photos, movies, collectibles, printed materials and news footage, visitors will have access to the "essence" of the veterans who served. Some of the materials will be purchased and some will be donated. Aging reels of home movies, yellowing photographs and military footage will be combined to present the real faces behind the names of our veterans. This will be a living memorial, and will be added to, as materials are secured. Dedicated to preserving the memory of those who lost their lives, the memorial will also document the lives of those who survived. Multi-screened, new technologies will allow numerous screens to operate simultaneously, displaying the numerous facets of military life during that time. Units, as well as individuals will be represented. All facets of military involvement, will be displayed, and all branches represented. A search screen will enable viewers to see if there is footage on a specific soldier or unit. The design of this memorial is under development. The implementation, depends on securing funds, in the form of donations. We believe the contribution of our service personnel should be recognized with the technology available. This memorial will be open to the public, without charge, and set in the appropriate environment for reflection and remembrance. Vets, help this happen with donations of photos, movies or other Vietnam items. The Sixties Museum is an Illinois 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation. We are a charitable and educational institution, dedicated to preserving and displaying, what is perhaps the most unusual decade ever. We attempt to preserve and share an unbiased, non-political view of the art, music, literature, fashion, political and social changes that are associated with the Sixties. The Sixties Museum, Inc. is dedicated to keeping those spirits alive and will provide general assistance to individuals and groups that also stand for these ideals. We are funded and furnished by you. Our goal is to share the magic and the spirit of the Sixties through youth education, support for learning, expansion of the arts and the recognition of ideals and goals. If you can't donate, let us add your movies, photographs and slides to the memorial. Preserve them for all to share. CopyrighCopyright © 2010 by The Sixties Museum. All rights reserved.
